The topic of my lesson is Culture.

The objective is knowing and embracing different cultures.

The students will use iMovie to create a digital story about their culture.

Part 1 – Technology

As diversity in our school population increases, students must know each other’s culture in music, dance, art, food, and language. Vyvial (2021) states culture is a way of life shared by people in a place or time.  I chose iMovie in that I have never used it but thought it is an excellent technology tool to enhance engagement.  iMovie technology tool has recently been used by educators to bring life into the lessons taught in the classroom. It can be used for classroom projects where students work in groups to create iMovie to include music, sound, text, and photos. iMovie can be used to create a summary of a book read and the plot of the story.

iMovie can be used in storytelling where students use digital images, pictures, and music. This lesson encourages students to explore the different cultures among themselves and to share and embrace these different cultures.

This technology was beneficial for student learning as students were able to create videos with effects and music that bring out their different cultures and the meaning of each culture. Students were able also to teach other students to make their movies and to apply video effects and music.

Part 2 - Differentiation

Roiha et al state that differentiation has become an indispensable teaching approach to meet the needs of diverse learners. It is a pedagogical approach to teaching that is adjusted to meet the needs of individual learners.  One way I could use technology to differentiate my lesson plan is for the high students they will create videos to share with other students. Students can acquire the skills necessary and understand the objectives of the lesson. Some students will be grouped based on their interest and can create a technology-based project and they will use a video for their presentation. The   Low students are students who need assistive technology to help them.  They will be able to speak into the assistive devices and create their movies.  They too will understand the objectives of the lesson as I will support students and check for understanding.

One way I could provide an alternative form of instruction is to use another technology the name, FlexClip.  Students use this software to create engaging videos with ready-made templates, motion already preset, and a built-in library. Students can create voice recordings and slideshows with music. Another great feature of FlexClip is that it provides users with thousands of media files and animated elements.
